A memory of MCRD-SD.
"The Hotel El Cortez , was just east of the airport.
Many a night while on clothesline watch I would watch the
outside elevator go up and down like big bug and I wondered
about the people using it. We could also see it as we
drilled on the grinder. I vowed that some day I too would
ride it .I did in 1960, at the time it was the only outside
glass elevator in the world. Today it is condos and shops".
