Bio: Spent
my entire active duty tour with 7thCommBn. working at BnHq with
classified material. Stayed in the Reserves and spent my time
there
with artilliary. In the field I was a scout observer, in garrison
I
worked in the armory. Began shooting with the local reserve unit
and was
picked up for the National Rifle Team in 1975. Traveled the country
running ranges, requal details, coaching, giving classes and
the best part
was getting to shoot matches nearly every month. Shot Division
matches
at CamPen and Camp Lejeune, became a Distinguished Rifleman in
1981.
Shot many Interservice Matches at Quantico and spent 18 years
attending
the National Matches at Camp Perry, Oh. Won 3 individual state
championships, shot on teams that won 6 state championships,
member of the team
which won the Herrick Cup (Camp Perry) 1000 yard, iron sight
w/ M-14.
Currently (2005) hold national records in 5 different team matches.
Was
a participant in the 9mm pistol testing at Ft. Benning, Ga. prior
to
the military adopting the Baretta. Activated at age 50 for Operation
Desert Storm, spent my time running the pistol ranges at Quantico.
Retired as a MGySgt with 32+ good years.
My civilian career (when I had time for
it) was with the Postal
Service. I would usually go on active duty around July 1st and
return after
the National matches in late August. This was in addition to
all the 3
and 4 day weekends for travel and training of Reserves. Started
as a
railway mail clerk making runs from Spokane to Shelby, Mt., Williston,
N.D., Seattle, Portland, and Butte, Mt. After the trains were
abolished I
became a clerk working the graveyard shift (my whole career).
My final
years were spent, in a small office with a 4 person crew, in
the
lowlife section of town where there was never a dull moment,
stabbings,
shootings, beatings and all the other things that go on in that
type of
environment. Took retirement from there one year earlier than
planned, as
my wife thought I might go postal and lose my benefits.
Retirement is treating me well, spend my
time doing honey-do's (if I
have time), restoring a 66 Vette, hunting, fishing, shooting,
running the
local rifle matches, volunteering at the VA hospital, being active
in
the local Marine Corps League and working the month of December
with the
Toys for Tots program. Do spend a few months in Yuma during the
winter/spring, where we have a small house on a large lot, with
orange,
lemon, lime and grapefruit trees, also get to do some shooting
there.
